COZY SPACES

There’s something about fall that makes staying in feel a little better. The colder evenings, changing leaves, warm lighting, and extra blankets make it the perfect time to turn your bedroom into a space you actually want to spend time in.

And you don’t need to completely redecorate your room for the season. A few small changes can bring that cozy fall feeling into your bedroom without covering everything in pumpkins and orange decorations.

Start With Warm Lighting

Lighting might make the biggest difference of all. Bright white overhead lights can make even the coziest room feel cold.

Try using warm-toned lamps, string lights, or other smaller light sources throughout your room. At night, having a few warm lights instead of one bright ceiling light instantly makes the space feel more relaxing.

Bring in Warmer Colors

You don't have to make your entire bedroom orange for it to feel like fall.

Start with the colors already in your room and add a few warmer tones. Deep brown, rust, olive green, burgundy, beige, and burnt orange can all bring in that autumn feeling.

Something as simple as changing a pillowcase or adding a throw blanket can make a surprisingly big difference.

Layer Your Bedding

Fall is basically an excuse to have way too many blankets.

Layer different textures on your bed with a comforter, throw blanket, pillows, or a chunky knit blanket. Mixing materials and slightly different neutral colors can make the bed feel much warmer and more inviting.

And don't worry about making everything look perfectly arranged. A cozy bedroom should look like somewhere you actually live.

Add Natural Elements

Fall happens outside, so bring a little bit of that feeling indoors.

Wood furniture, dried flowers, branches, plants, woven baskets, and other natural materials can make your bedroom feel warmer without looking overly seasonal.

You can even collect a few interesting leaves or branches outside and use them as simple seasonal decorations.

Create a Cozy Corner

If you have some extra space, make one part of your bedroom your designated fall spot.

It could be a chair with a blanket next to a lamp, a small reading corner, or even an area for listening to records and relaxing.

Add a book, a warm drink, put on an album you love, and suddenly staying inside on a cold evening doesn't sound so bad.

Make It Smell Like Fall

The way a room smells can completely change how it feels.

Candles or other home fragrances with notes like vanilla, cinnamon, apple, sandalwood, amber, or cedar can add another layer of warmth to the room.

Just don't mix ten different fall scents at once—your bedroom doesn't need to smell like the entire candle aisle.

Add Things That Feel Like You

The best cozy bedrooms aren't perfect Pinterest showrooms.

Put your favorite records on the wall. Display books you actually read. Add photographs, artwork, posters, or little objects you've collected over time.

Fall decor can help set the mood, but your personality is what actually makes the room feel comfortable.

Keep It Simple

You don't need to completely transform your bedroom every September.

Start with warm lighting. Add a comfortable blanket. Bring in a few autumn colors and textures. Put on some music, open the window when the weather cools down, and let your room feel lived in.

The goal isn't to create the perfect fall bedroom.

It's to create somewhere that makes you happy to come home, get comfortable, and stay awhile.
